RAD Bridges the Bandwidth Gap

Innovative Solutions Provide Data Rates of More Than 2 Mbps Without Paying for E3/T3

The bandwidth gap between E1/T1 (which provide 2.048 and 1.544 Mbps respectively in bandwidth) and E3/T3 services (which provide 34 and 45 Mbps) presents an emerging challenge for carriers and enterprise networks alike. How can a mid-field of bandwidth be provided without obliging customers to jump to more expensive and oftentimes wasteful E3/T3 lines?

At Telecom World 2003 in Geneva, RAD Data Communications will unveil new product solutions that will bridge that ever-widening gap using multiple SHDSL and E1/T1 lines.

Managed Inverse Multiplexer Provides Increased Bandwidth

RAD’s IMXi-4 is a managed inverse multiplexer that can transmit a single high speed data channel over up to either four standard 2-wire SHDSL links or E1/T1 lines. A built-in Ethernet bridge/router connects 10/100BaseT LANs to the device. “The IMXi-4 spans the bandwidth gap between E1/T1 and E3/T3 by providing increased bandwidth where services higher than E1/T1 are unavailable or unaffordable,” explains Amir Karo, Director of Product Management at RAD Data Communications. In addition, the product’s adaptive bandwidth supports extended transmission ranges over SHDSL lines.

High Speed ATM IAD that Supports Ethernet and IP Services

The LA-104, the latest addition to RAD’s Link Access family, is a high speed ATM IAD that supports Ethernet and IP services. Using bonding over up to four standard SHDSL links, it provides up to 8.2 Mbps in bandwidth while enabling backup between links for better service levels. “This is an ideal solution for service providers seeking an innovative way to offer high speed LAN-based access services, such as inter-office connectivity, Internet access or IP VPN, over to small and medium-sized businesses,” Karo states. Like the IMXi-4, the LA-104 also provides adjustable bandwidth to support transmission beyond SHDSL’s regular reach.

“These same cost-effective solutions can also benefit cellular operators in backhauling applications from radio sites of 2G/2.5G and 3G networks,” Karo notes.

RAD will soon introduce additional product solutions that will offer up to eight E1/T1 lines of bandwidth. “RAD has taken the lead in developing innovative solutions that allow for the provisioning of affordable, consumer-friendly bandwidth that has not existed until now,” Karo concludes.
