RAD Modems Help Solve Copenhagen Parking Problems

Like any major city, Copenhagen suffers its share of parking problems. Thousands of drivers struggle to find parking space on their way to work or for major events. In the interest of its citizens, the municipality decided to implement a real-time municipal messaging system that would help alleviate traffic congestion and parking problems.

RAD’s local distributor, Heath Comm A/S, formerly Betech Data, offered Copenhagen Energy a solution based on RAD’s xDSL modems that would enable full Local Loop coverage with a variety of technologies, rates, interfaces and media. Copenhagen Energy is part of the city government and one of the largest energy companies in Denmark.

The computerized messaging system enables drivers to locate available parking spaces on electronic billboards placed throughout the city. The solution combines RAD’s LRS-12modem rack and a variety of short range xDSL modems, specifically RAD’s ASM-32 IDSL modem and ASMi-50 MSDSL modem. RAD’s RSD programmable sharing device was also incorporated into the solution.

“The system integrates RAD’s IDSL and MSDSL modems together with a centralized (SNMP) management system,” says Peter Sode, the project manager for Copenhagen Energy. “Because of RAD’s easy-to-implement modem technology, busy people now waste less time looking for parking spaces in the morning, relieving a block of rush hour traffic.”
