RAD's MTU concept, deployed by New T&T in 100 office buildings, enables the carrier to capture a significant share of the rapidly expanding market for high speed broadband services in Hong Kong. "With RAD's cost-effective solution, we acquire more broadband business customers at very low operating and maintenance costs, and with easy expansion capabilities. Customers enjoy fast provisioning of new, value-added services, and the building owners gain tenant satisfaction. It is a win-win-win situation for all parties," says Wilson Foog, Manager of Broadband Network & Data Services at New T&T.
The MTU solution, supplied to New T&T by Newave Technology International Ltd., a RAD distributor in Hong Kong, includes the compact DXC-8R 32-port multiservice access node installed in each building's basement. Voice and data transmissions are groomed by the DXC, which connects to the central office over a single broadband link, reducing New T&T's line costs for serving the separate customers. The DXC sends incoming voice and data traffic to a WEB RANger-II access unit located at the customer premises, which routes the data traffic to the customer LAN and the voice traffic to the PBX. For customers who want to take advantage of the broadband link for data traffic only, RAD's FCD-1L low cost CSU/DSU installed in the customer premises directs the traffic to the customer LAN.
