Bharti Telnet (Touchtel) is the first and largest private telecommunications company to offer fixed line services in India, and has recently won the licenses to provide basic data services in five major telecom circles, or regions, in India.

Complete Access Ring and CPE

Bharti selected RAD’s multiservice access and Last Mile products to provide the access network in the telecom circles. RAD’s DXC-8R compact multiservice access node installed at each Bharti point of presence (PoP) takes E1 lines from the SDH backbone and distributes the desired services to modems or access units at customer sites over the required interfaces. All customer premises equipment (CPE) is managed from a central location using the RADview network management system.

One-Stop Shop

“MRO-TEK was selected for this prestigious contract because of RAD’s flexible products and MRO-TEK’s technical expertise in providing a complete solution with products from a single vendor,” states Mr. Naveen Rao of MRO-TEK, the RAD distributor that won the project. “RAD devices can support a wide range of rates and interfaces to meet the various data needs of Bharti customers. For example, we install an FCD-IP access unit with a built-in router for customers that require full or fractional E1 services but do not have their own router. However, if a router already exists at the customer site, we install the FCD-E1 with a V.35 interface for this purpose,” he explains.

“We are very pleased to add Bharti to our long list of service providers working with RAD in Asia,” says Jeremy Lange, Senior Sales Manager at RAD Data Communications. “We recognize Bharti as a major player in providing residential and corporate voice and data services in India.”

Future-Proof Products

Bharti is hoping to expand its presence in the telecom circles by providing voice communications as well as data. RAD’s FCD access unit can be upgraded to support voice services by simply adding analog voice ports, thereby furnishing the migration path that Bharti needs.
