The Isle of Man Government has installed a Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) digital, two-way network to provide secure voice and data communications to 16 government organizations, including all emergency services as well as other key users such as government utilities and transport, forestry and tourism departments. The TETRA network enables secure communications between police, fire and rescue, and ambulance crews from one central location. The system will also be used for maritime purposes within the island territorial waters.

A complex ring of RAD Multiservice Access Platform (MAP) products underpins the Motorola TETRA system to ensure the integration of all voice and data traffic over the network and to provide backup paths in the event of disruption to the main service plan.

A key component in the MAP solution is the Megaplex-2100, a modular integrated access multiplexer. In the Isle of Man government’s network, its flexibility has enabled the integration of voice and data in a very compact chassis configuration. The network is future-proof, as the whole platform can migrate to IP should the need arise. The solution was designed, implemented and is supported by GFI Informatics, an authorized RAD distributor in the UK.
