RAD Helps Patrol the M25 with New Improved Speed Cameras

23rd January 2007: RAD's ASMi-52 modems are providing an integral part of a new speed camera system on the M25. The new cameras will be placed on gantries that span across lanes on the M25. The tolerance level of each lane camera will be set according to the speed limit displayed on the variable speed board. Lane one, for example, could have a speed limit of 50mph while lanes two and three have a limit of 70mph.
The ASMi-52 modems allow the cameras to communicate between their location on the motorway and the control sites. Using Ethernet over copper, RAD's technology enables the speed camera settings to be changed at the push of a button. Additionally, data from the processed images can be sent back to the control rooms for processing.
RAD has been working with its reseller, Magdalene, to test the communications equipment, which will ensure that the appropriate speed limits are in place in all eventualities.

The ASMi-52 is a G.SHDSL modem with integrated management including monitoring, control and diagnostics. The industry standards-driven device has been used by highways around the world in countries such as Italy and France.
