Seamlessly Bridges between Ethernet and SDH/SONET

This particular application illustrates how RAD’s suite of Ethernet extenders, converters and terminal multiplexers can be applied to backhaul Internet access services from IP DSLAMs at regional points-of-presence to an MPLS core via bonded E1/T1 circuits and an SDH/SONET transport network.

 

The hand-off point between the SDH/SONET and MPLS networks features RAD’s Optimux-1551 SDH/SONET terminal multiplexer, which aggregates E1/T1 circuits from the add-drop multiplexer (ADM) and delivers them over an STM-1/OC-3 link to a network router or, in this case, RAD’s cost-effective Egate-100 channelized Ethernet gateway. The Optimux-1551 terminal multiplexer is required in those cases in which STM-1/OC-3 ports are not available on the carrier’s ADM.

Low Cost Ethernet Extension

RICi converters deployed at the customer premises perform circuit bonding to deliver Ethernet over four or eight E1/T1 links. Simple protocol conversion achieved by the RICi converters is the most cost-effective way to transmit Ethernet transparently, point-to-point, over SDH/SONET networks. This is also true for competitive carriers transporting their customers’ traffic over another carrier’s network. RAD’s RICi converters provide an intelligent, easily managed and affordable solution to carry Ethernet services over SDH/SONET, while ensuring reliable Quality of Service (QoS) and remote management capabilities. RAD’s Egate-100 Gigabit Ethernet-over-channelized STM-1/OC-3 gateway provides Ethernet services over SDH/SONET networks, seamlessly connecting TDM and Ethernet networks while maintaining the same level of Ethernet service attributes.
