Managed Inverse Multiplexer

IMXi-4: Managed Inverse Multiplexer

Product Summary

RAD's IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer splits a single high speed channel of up to 8.3 Mbps and transmits the split signals over (up to) four E1/T1 or SHDSL network links. By splitting the traffic onto multiple E1/T1 or SHDSL links, IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer enables cost-effective high speed transmissions, such as transparent LAN over WANs. IMXi-4 also supports IP routing or user-selectable MAC bridging with VLAN support.

Benefits

• Supports bandwidth on demand for efficient use of network resources

• Low cost transport of broadband traffic reduces operating costs

• Saves the cost of conversion equipment reducing capitol expenditures

• Higher speeds, extended distance over SHDSL enables service providers to reach more customers

• More secure data transmissions

• Variety of management options

• Comprehensive diagnostics and statistics on all ports and network layers

Further Product Information

The IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer splits a single high speed channel of up to 8.3 Mbps, and transmits it over up to four E1/T1 or SHDSL network links. IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer bridges the bandwidth gap between E1/T1 and E3/T3 services, while providing the flexibility to increase throughput from one to four lines as network requirements grow. Automatic rate fallback ensures continued transmission even if an individual link fails.

Bridge or router mode

RAD’s IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer enables enterprises and service providers to use the same device for Ethernet or IP environments. When operating in bridge mode, user LAN traffic can be VLAN tagged or stacked for transparent transport. The user port has a 10/100BaseT interface.

Ethernet over SHDSL links

Using SHDSL links, IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer can extend Ethernet service coverage to reach more customers. 2.0 Mbps/1.5 Mbps traffic can be transported up to 6.6 km (4.1 miles) over copper lines, without the need for additional equipment. SHDSL support adds flexibility, enabling increasing the distance by adjusting the data rate, while enlarging the total throughput to 8.3 Mbps.

Local and remote IMXi-4 inverse multiplexer units can be managed by RADview-EMS, an SNMP CORBA-based multiplatform element management system, allowing remote troubleshooting and configuration. The units can also be managed via Telnet or an ASCII terminal through a dedicated timeslot.
