RAD Enhances Egate-100 Ethernet-over-TDM Gateway with More Broadband Uplinks, Greater Network Efficiency and Improved Security

Features 3 T3 Uplinks, STM-1/OC-3 Redundancy, E1/T1 Loop Detection and New SSL, SSH and RADIUS Features

RAD Data Communications has launched Version 2.5 of the Egate-100 channelized Ethernet gateway.

Version 2.5 features new hardware that supports three T3 uplinks, STM-1/OC-3 link redundancy (APS 1+1) and hardware support for GbE redundancy. New software supports E1/T1 loop detection to detect PDH loops, avoiding Ethernet loops and storming. It also introduces Generic Framing Procedure (G.8040) to improve PDH link utilization, improves line latency for delay sensitive applications and allows third party interoperability. In addition, Version 2.5 provides trunk VLAN stacking on the Gigabit Ethernet aggregate to reduce the number of VLANs in the network. Customer VLAN configuration is transparent for the service provider.

The new version introduces secure Web and Telnet applications (SSL and SSH) and implements RADIUS password authentication, which improves product security.

The Egate-100 is a channelized gateway for interconnecting TDM and packet networks. It aggregates and switches Ethernet traffic to a single STM-1/OC-3 port, or to three channelized T3 ports. The unique capability of Egate-100 enables service providers and enterprises to provide carrier access services such as Ethernet private line (point-to-multipoint) or Ethernet private LAN (point-to-point or any-to-any) at granular rates from fractional E1 or T1 to high-bandwidth STM-1/OC-3.

The Egate-100 replaces current high-price solutions such as channelized STM-1/OC-3 routers or multibox solutions based on converter racks and switches. Together with service scalability, a small footprint and low power consumption, the Egate-100 significantly reduces equipment costs and simplifies network operation.
