RAD’s Unique “All-in-One” Next Generation Multiservice Platform Delivers Any Service over Any Infrastructure

Megaplex-4100 Aggregates Ethernet and Legacy over Fiber and Copper

RAD Data Communications has unveiled a unique ‘all-in-one’ cross-generation platform for both legacy and next generation networks that delivers any service over any infrastructure.

Version 2.0 of the modular Megaplex-4100, the company’s modular central site solution for its widely deployed Multiservice Access Platform (MAP) and copper and fiber Last Mile products, aggregates both next generation Ethernet services over legacy networks and legacy services over packet switched networks (PSNs). With this unparalleled capability, the Megaplex-4100 can terminate Ethernet traffic carried over the widest possible variety of transport media, including E1/T1, fiber, IDSL, and SHDSL or, using virtual concatenation, STM-1/OC-3 lines. In addition, apart from handling high-speed traffic, the versatile Megaplex-4100 also functions as a cross connect for low-speed data and analog voice.

The product is designed to meet the requirements of service providers, as well as utility, transportation and government applications. Service providers will find the Megaplex-4100 a perfect solution for separating Ethernet and TDM traffic carried over the same link while providing a variety of different services. For alternative carriers and corporate and campus environments, the device is ideal for minimizing the number of trunks that have to be leased from the service provider. Alternative service providers can now use the Megapex-4100 to provision different services to different customers over different infrastructure. In addition, utilities will find it a perfect solution for creating SDH/SONET rings for carrying Ethernet voice and data. The transportation industry will be able to rely on it to easily migrate their voice and data traffic, including bus, railway and aircraft arrival and departure information, to PSNs.

“Pay as You Grow” Flexibility Reduces CapEx and OpEx

“There are many vendors that offer each of these capabilities separately, but only RAD offers a complete central-site solution with unified management that simultaneously aggregates Ethernet over legacy and legacy over PSNs, as well as supporting both copper and fiber lines simultaneously” notes Kobi Gol, Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications. “The ‘pay as you grow’ flexibility of a modular single-device solution not only reduces capital expenses, but, by converging services over a shared media, reduces operating expenses as well.”
